Tips to write a Dissertation

Dissertation proposal is generally an overview of your overall work. It gives gist of your project work. A proposal should include a crisp overview of your project. It talks about the topic for the research, the significance, the research methodology used. One needs to be very careful in writing a dissertation proposal as it is the face of your complete project. Look at some of the tips/guidelines for writing an impressive dissertation proposal.

• Before you start writing your dissertation proposal, be clear in your thoughts, regarding what are you going to research and how.

• Spend qualitative time to explore and understand your research topic thoroughly

• Have a clear understanding of the topic you have selected

• Start writing your thoughts as they come in your mind. You can always edit those written lines once you have jotted down your thoughts.

• Keep a paper, mobile device or any writing material handy whole day, so if some thoughts come in your mind in the course of the day you can note that down. You can download a relevant app on your smart phone for this.

• Make sure you follow the guidelines of word limitation, other formatting given by your mentor or professor.

• Start writing your research proposal with clear sections first as you might find writing an introduction a bit difficult.

• Remember that do not make your proposal exhaustive as this is draft of your thesis.

• While preparing your draft always keep in touch with your mentor for some advice and ideas.

• When you prepare your draft and submit it make sure that is well formatted with a spell check run as this is the first impression which will be created.

• Make sure to run a grammar check also.

• Also, remember this is your research proposal, which means you have not started your project yet, so most of the things will be in future tense and not past tense. Your final dissertation will be written in the past tense.

• Do not over commit or over write in your research proposal.

• Make sure you include the relevant sections of introduction, problem statement, Methodology used, the outcomes, timelines and bibliography.

• Do give proper justice to each section included in your research proposal by explaining in detail. However, keep in mind the word limit too.

• Lastly, be mentally prepared to draft and redraft the same until approved by your college or university.
